Unintended consequence of technology

Sure, they save money, but the LEDs in the most modern traffic lights have a major drawback. Unlike the old, wasteful incandescent traffic bulb, which melted the snow that built up on them, LED lights don't give off enough heat to melt any snow that builds up on them during a blizzard.

Some bright engineer is going to have to figure out how to make a solar melting thingy. I think all road surfaces should be solar panels. Think how much power and jobs that would generate. Royce
